Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Adoption Fee cover?

Dog and cat adoption fees include:

  • A general physical examination and behavioral evaluation by a veterinarian
  • Canine or feline distemper combination vaccination and bordetella (canines only); age-appropriate canines and felines also receive a rabies vaccination whenever possible
  • Deworming medication
  • Flea/tick treatment
  • SNAP test (if age appropriate and meets testing guidelines)
  • Spay/neuter surgery
  • 30-day return period for dogs and 7- day return period for cats
  • A small bag of transition food
  • Microchipping

What happens to found animals that are never claimed?

Animals that are not claimed after 7 days in our care are then fully vetted and put up for adoption in which the PCHS finds them a new forever home.

What if my pet is lost?

Please send us an email or FB message with the following information:

  • Picture of lost animal
  • Location and date they went missing
  • Contact information of owner

Why are you guys by appointment only?

Through the pandemic and limited staff, we found appointments to be an efficient way to make sure potential adopters have quality time and help with the animal they are interested in. We typically only have one staff on duty so appointments allow for proper planning for adoptions, quality time with potential adopters, and for staff to better help visitors.

Do you guys declaw your cats?

No we do not.  We do not recommend declawing cats for many reasons, and the only reason we would have cats that are declawed is that they came to PCHS already declawed.
